Modest. Sufficient. Italian.

I know I am late, and will do the breakfast appetizer of shame - but I think it is important to post, so I am posting now.

Last month was Richard's pick, and we went to Marco Polo, which is an Italian market/deli.  They served a modest but sufficient menu of Italian dishes.  I had ravioli with an Italian sausage.  It was good, but the sauce was a little sweet.  It came with minestrone, which was OK, salad, which was OK, and bread, which was OK.

I also had to purchase the appetizers of shame, so I got toasted ravioli and meatballs for the group.  I thought the appetizers were great - the best toasted ravioli I remember having.  Suck it, St. Louis.

I had a canoli for dessert, which was great.  I thought it was a very good canoli.  I even got one for Sara, and ate it for her.

Oh, and I did have a glass of wine, which had to be purchased at Jasper's next door.  I forget what I ordered, but I think the prices/sizes were in Italian, because it cost like $10 for a glass, so I drank it slowly. It was good, but not $10/glass good.  I'll be drink $8 bottles for a while to make up for it.

It was self-serve, so service wasn't really an issue, other than one of the girls was kind of mean behind the counter - but the other was very nice and helpful.  Also, I don't particularly like eating slow food (as opposed to fast food) that you pick up yourself.  By the time I got my food, everyone else was about done with their meal, and I was eating alone - just like my lonely Friday nights freshman year :( .  Do I still have to buy the appetizer of shame?  I don't know if my self-worth can take it.

The decor was alright, some Italian stuff to buy, but not a ton.  Like the menu: modest but probably sufficient.

Overall: the food was good for the most part, with the appetizers and canoli being above average, the ravioli average, and the soup a little below average (but Josh got a different soup which was very good). I give it a 3.2/5.
